The GTO was then sold back to the factory, and was sold on to Lucien Bianchi via Ecurie Francorchamps. He finished with Claude Dubois 7th OA in the Tour de France, and with Willy Mairesse he finished 5th OA in the 1000km Paris race in Montlhery.
After the GP in Angola the GTO went to the Scuderia Filipinetti, who sold it to Armand Boller, who finished first in many races. The GTO then went to Bamford VW dealer Don Nelson and on to Stephen Pilkington. Pilkington kept the GTO for 20 years and in 2005 it was sold to Irvine Laidlaw in the UK.
