A fine 1:8 large-scale collector’s model of the Ferrari 288 GTO which was first unveiled to the public at the 54th Geneva Motor Show in March 1984 and started the Special Series models of the modern era.
First of the five Ferrari limited edition ’hypercars’ culminating in the LaFerrari, the 288 GTO was built to compete in the Group B Race series for which a minimum of 200 cars were required to be homologated. Following the deaths of Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto in the 1986 Tour de Corse, the FIA cancelled the Group B class leaving just the Group A rally championship in place. As a result, the 288 GTO never raced and all 272 cars built were sold as ’hyper performance’ road cars. In a break with Ferrari naming-numbering tradition the 288 refers to the GTO’s 2.8 litre V8 engine.
This model has been hand-crafted utilising our own CAD data created by scanning an original car in every detail. The resulting prototype has undergone strict scrutiny by Ferrari to ensure complete accuracy.
