Bugatti EB110 (1994) Le Mans
With plans being put in place from 1989, the EB110GT was presented to the public in Paris in 1991 on the day that would have marked Ettore Bugatti’s 110th birthday, hence the car’s name.*The EB110 houses a technologically advanced 3.5 litre 12 cylinder engine, further enhanced by four turbochargers, producing over 550 brake horsepower and weighing just 1620kg. The aluminium body panels are bonded to a carbon fibre monocoque chassis; the RB 110 was the first road car to feature this technique. This became the basic framework for Bugatti’s 1994 Le Mans contender, after a lengthy 55-year absence from the legendary track.*Next to the ‘Dauer’ Porsche, the Bugatti proved fastest in practice and entered the race with drivers Cudini, Helary and Bouillon. Despite an impressive performance, the team’s race came to an end during the dying laps when a tyre failure drove the EB110 into the barriers on the Mulsanne Straight.
