Iconic Car Anniversaries
Though the Geneva International Motor Show may not be taking place in its accustomed location or at its established time of year in 2023, several iconic cars unveiled in previous years are reaching landmark anniversaries this month. We reminisce about some of the most exciting car launches in recent years at the Salon of Automotive Excellence.
Ferrari LaFerrari
Ten years since the Ferrari hybrid debuted

Ferrari 488 Pista
Five years of the benchmark V8 engine
Five years ago, Ferrari revealed the 488 Pista at Geneva. Its 3902cc 710bhp V8 engine was the most powerful car to have left Maranello and brought the adrenaline of the track to every road, offering the thrill of absolute control. The Pista, designed by Flavio Manzoni, was a continuation of the track-ready ‘special series’ V8 supercar that stretched back to the 360 Challenge Stradale in 2003, but none of its predecessors represented such a titanic leap in performance. The V8 became the new benchmark not only for turbo-charged power units, but for all engines.
McLaren Senna
Five years of the most extreme McLaren
Inspired by one of McLaren’s greatest racing drivers, the McLaren Senna was officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show five years ago. the staggeringly beautiful McLaren Senna took its place as the third addition in the McLaren Ultimate Series and is dedicated to allowing the driver to be the best they can possibly be, unashamedly without compromise. Only 500 Sennas are to be produced, each delivering savage acceleration: 0-62mph (100km/h) achieved in 2.8 seconds, 0-124mph (200km/h) in 6.8 seconds and 0-186mph (300km/h) in 18.8 seconds. Weighing just 1198 kg and exhibiting an aggressive appearance, the McLaren Senna epitomises the company’s ‘form follows function’ design philosophy.
